About the position

Matthew House ("MHO") Furniture Bank is seeking volunteer Warehouse Assistants to work one or more shifts a week, to help us provide quality used furniture to those who are struggling in our community. 

Shifts are weekdays beginning at 10 a.m., for 4 to 6 hours. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work well in a fast-paced environment with other team members. Training is provided.

MHO achieves their mission though two programs:

The Furniture Bank distributes quality used furniture and household goods to Ottawa’s marginalized population. In 2015, MHO provided free furniture and household goods to 605 families in Ottawa.

Refugee Services provides shelter, food, and refugee settlement assistance, including volunteer opportunities, in a family atmosphere to refugee claimants so that they may begin their journey to independence as members in Canadian society. In 2015, MHO provided a home for 24 refugee claimants from 14 countries.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Help move furniture onto and from delivery truck and within warehouse;

  • Help furniture donors unload furniture donations;

  • Help keep warehouse organized
