About the position
Frontier College is a national charitable literacy organization. Founded in 1899, we offer programs for children, youth, and adults in Canada.
We are looking for dedicated Volunteer Tutors, who can assist with various programs such as Homework Club, Reading Club and Adult Education.
Our volunteers enrich the lives of our learners and help them to succeed in education and life. In so doing our volunteers also enrich their own lives.
There are no special qualifications to be a volunteer tutor; just empathy, reliability, creativity, and age 14 or older.
We ask that you tutor for one or two hours per week, depending on the program.
You will choose from a variety of program options:
Halifax or Dartmouth
Children, Youth or Adults
Week days or nights or Saturday morning
Several potential topics: Homework support, reading support, youth academic support(math, science, homework, English language skills), adult education upgrading, family literacy, and English language support.
We are currently delivering our tutoring programs online using Zoom. Training is available for all tutors.
You will receive a personal interview to help you choose the program that suits you best.
You will attend our four hour tutor training session.
You will receive ongoing support.
