About the position

Maternity Today (MT) is currently searching for a Volunteer Grant Writer to join the team.


The Grant Writer will write coherent, organized, and compelling proposals. You will apply your knowledge of fundraising methods and plans to reach income goals. You will collaborate with team members in the organization to assist with other fundraising projects and develop relationships with key stakeholders.


You will work with internal and external partners of maternity Today to ensure  accurate, detailed and concise proposals are written, edited, formatted, revised,  submitted, tracked, and monitored in an appropriate manner to ensure continual  Maternity Today strategic success.



Responsibilities:


  • Prepare proposals by gathering and formatting the required information, writing the drafts, and securing internal approvals.

  • Conducting prospect research; assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.

  • Identifying grant funding opportunities.

  • Displaying adherence to the organization’s mission.

  • Edit and review content with meticulous attention to grammar, punctuation, style, tone, and consistency of reports and other written materials.

  • Provide updates on the submission of the grants and target deadlines to Executive Director.


We are in the early stages of revamping strategies, structures, and procedures so this role will be busy and expanding. You will have the opportunity to create new processes geared towards organizational growth and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in creative writing or related field.

  • 5+ years of grant writing experience in nonprofit grant writing

  • Good knowledge of feminism, international development, global health, sexual and reproductive health right and women economic empowerment model.

  • Knowledge of UN Sustainable Development Goals

  • Proficient in measuring and reaching income goals.

  • Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel.

  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian government funding strategy

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.



Footnotes:


  • This position can be done virtually from anywhere in Canada.

  • Expectations regarding a time commitment are in the range of 6-8 hours per week on average.

  • This is a volunteer position that could potentially lead into other roles within the organization.

Maternity Today is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to sharing evidence and resources with communities, health-care workers, and midwives in developing countries. Our office is in Ottawa, Canada but receives support from global health experts and midwives around the world. Our key priority areas include improving midwifery profession and institutional delivery, newborn adolescent health, community mobilization and advocacy for gender equality and adolescent health.


As part of our work, we also empower passionate health-care professionals to advocate and improve policies that enhance the quality of maternal and child health care in developing countries.
