About the position
At the height of COVID-19 third wave, many isolated seniors living alone in downtown Toronto need our help more than ever. They need help from someone like you to push the cart and grocery shop on their behalf. Volunteer with Society of Sharing today and make a difference in their lives!
Grocery Shoppers shop for grocery items and other essentials and deliver them to the seniors in their own homes. A car is not required for this role. Applicants for this volunteer position must be 18 years old or older and must be willing to commit 2 to 4 hours per shopping for at least a period of 6 months.
Volunteers must be comfortable spending time with seniors, and must also demonstrate good communication and organizational skills and able to show compassion, patience, and dependability.
IMPORTANT: To ensure safety of volunteers and clients, Society of Sharing strictly follows the Public Health Ontario and Toronto Public Health guidelines against COVID-19.
Requirements
Applicant must be:
18 years old or older
Available in some weekdays
Comfortable spending time with seniors
Willing to commit for at least six months
Willing to undergo vulnerable sector screening (police check)
Note: Use of own vehicle is voluntary.
About the organization
Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to serving seniors who live alone in their own homes in downtown Toronto, since 1981.
The organization recruit and train volunteers who provide programs and services such as friendly visiting, medical and shopping escort, group socialization, and telephone reassurance.
