About the position

The Empathy Squad program trains and equips youth from across Canada to generate empathy-building dialogue through the collection of stories through interviews and the creation of podcasts.

You will learn skills such as interviewing, outreach, narrative design, sound design, and editing on podcast creation software.

The program’s time commitment is about 12 hours a week for 12 weeks, attending training sessions, conducting interviews and completing your podcast piece.

Requirements

No experience necessary!

The whole program is virtual, and can be completed from the comfort of your own home. Depending on how safe you feel this pandemic, you can complete the program without getting into physical contact with the people that you interview -- as we will be teaching people how to interview someone over the internet and over the phone. We will teach people how to interview folks in-person as well.

About the organization

FIXT POINT is a Toronto-based arts & media company with national reach. Our mandate is to inspire audiences and artists to imagine change, and our mission is to promote local culture and preserve local heritage through the telling of tales across multiple platforms.

We endeavour to be leaders in public engagement, embedding training and outreach into our process of creation and dissemination. FIXT POINT was founded in 2006 and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 2011.

Impact

Through this program, past Empathy Squad members felt they became more connected with the communities from which they gathered stories and that they left a positive contribution to these communities.  Amplify voices, centre overlooked stories, and celebrate the unsung heroes in your community.

You'll have the chance to collect stories, learn podcasting skills, meet new people from different walks of life, and collaborate with future leaders across the country. Come spark change, one story at a time.
