About the position

The Canada Connects Program matches clients and their families with a long-time London resident volunteer to meet once weekly for a period of six months.

During these meet-ups, volunteers help clients with their English, with getting to know and getting around London, and with feeling more connected to the community.

Currently, CCLC is organizing virtual matches and is in need of volunteers willing and able to meet with newcomers over virtual platforms.

In this position you will be helping newcomers to:

  • Learn about the London community.

  • Make new friends and connections in the community.

  • Learn new skills.

  • Practice English.

Volunteers will have the flexibility to coordinate with the client on a schedule that works for both of them.

You will be required to do a general interdepartmental training provided by CCLC and complete the following three Online training courses:

  1. Health & Safety.

  2. AODA & Customer Service Standard.

  3. Call It Out: Racism, Racial Discrimination, & Human Rights.

Guide and Information about these courses will be provided during the volunteer process with CCLC and certificates will be provided upon completion.

While this position can be done remotely, we try to focus on recruiting volunteers from the community of London, ON, to help with introducing newcomers to community events, activities, and resources.

About the organization

The London Cross Cultural Learner Centre (CCLC)  was founded in 1960 by a group of global villagers from Western University with the desire to share their cross-cultural experiences from the Third World with those at home in Canada.

CCLC's purpose is to provide settlement services and support to newcomers, as well as to promote intercultural awareness and understanding.

Our extensive experience is focused on helping Government Assisted Refugees, Refugee Claimants, and other vulnerable newcomers settle,  integrate, and succeed in the London community.  We address their immediate needs as well as foster long-term community engagement through a wide range of activities.

You will be part of a community that helps build a more welcoming community where newcomers can succeed and reach their full potential for a brighter future.
